Mmm, Smells Like Republican Spin
You know when the Republican spin machine is working, because you can hear the little hamsters running on their wheels.
The new talking point is that the surge is working, and the public knows it, because they aren’t concerned about the war anymore.
Some points that the Right won’t bring up, because they will do everything, from hurting our national security to sacrificing our men and women, to keep their party from going down in 2008. Continue reading
Lie For Me, Jesus
Being an atheist makes you realize just how comical and pathetic religious wars are, as really, it’s a fight amongst people that all believe their imaginary friend is all awesomes, and that other people’s imaginary friends are all evils.
Our current Jesus vs. Mohammad war is just another page in a crazy book of history that has gone on for quite a long time.
An article in today’s WaPo highlights this little war, and the way our right-wingers will lie simply to make their followers believe that even our current Presidential race is somehow on the forefront of this “religious” war.
In his speeches and often on the Internet, the part of Sen. Barack Obama’s biography that gets the most attention is not his race but his connections to the Muslim world.
Since declaring his candidacy for president in February, Obama, a member of a congregation of the United Church of Christ in Chicago, has had to address assertions that he is a Muslim or that he had received training in Islam in Indonesia, where he lived from ages 6 to 10. While his father was an atheist and his mother did not practice religion, Obama’s stepfather did occasionally attend services at a mosque there. Continue reading
Just How Crazy Are Far-Right Christians?
Far-right Christians scare the fuck out of me, because I believe they use their faith as a way to be dumb and bigoted. For instance, who in the world can hate antidiscrimination laws? Oh, far-right fuckin’ Christians, of course.
A Christian group based in Southern California sued the state Tuesday to overturn a law that prohibits discrimination against gays in schools.
Murrieta-based Advocates for Faith and Freedom filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in San Diego. It was joined by the Northern California chapter of Alliance Defense Fund, an Arizona-based Christian legal group.
The groups filed suit on behalf of several teachers and a student who claim the law, which was passed this year, is unconstitutionally vague and violates student privacy by changing the definition of gender in California’s education code.
UN – Please Stop Humping Climate Change
UNITED NATIONS – Floods, droughts and other climate disasters will rob millions of children of the decent meals and schools they need unless rich nations pony up $86 billion by 2015 to help the poor adapt to global warming, an expert panel warned Tuesday.
The U.S. government needs to cover $40 billion of that spending, which will “strengthen the capacity of vulnerable people” to cope with climate-related risks, according to the report commissioned by the U.N. Development Program.

Sometimes you see advocacy groups go fuckin’ bat shit insane so that their cause gets acceptance, and today, we have one of those examples.
The pets of Palm Beach Community College employees will qualify for discounted group medical insurance beginning in January, but domestic partners are still barred from receiving similar benefits.
School officials sent a memo last week explaining the new voluntary pet benefit available via payroll deduction through the private company Veterinary Pet Insurance.
Full-time college employees can receive a 5 percent discount on services because of the college’s enrollment in the program, which covers dogs and cats, but also hedgehogs, frogs, guinea pigs, geckos, iguanas and sugar gliders – small flying mammals native to Australia.
PBCC’s response makes complete sense. Continue reading
