It’s like the Liberal Universe, or something

Lie For Me, Jesus

Being an atheist makes you realize just how comical and pathetic religious wars are, as really, it’s a fight amongst people that all believe their imaginary friend is all awesomes, and that other people’s imaginary friends are all evils.

Our current Jesus vs. Mohammad war is just another page in a crazy book of history that has gone on for quite a long time.

An article in today’s highlights this little war, and the way our right-wingers will lie simply to make their followers believe that even our current Presidential race is somehow on the forefront of this “religious” war.

In his speeches and often on the Internet, the part of Sen. Barack Obama’s biography that gets the most attention is not his race but his connections to the Muslim world.

Since declaring his candidacy for president in February, Obama, a member of a congregation of the United Church of Christ in Chicago, has had to address assertions that he is a Muslim or that he had received training in Islam in Indonesia, where he lived from ages 6 to 10. While his father was an atheist and his mother did not practice religion, Obama’s stepfather did occasionally attend services at a mosque there.

Human Events, another conservative magazine, published on its Web site a package of articles called “Barack Obama Exposed.” One of them was titled “The First Muslim President?”

Robert Spencer, a conservative activist, wrote in Human Events that “given Obama’s politics, it will not be hard to present him internationally as someone who understands Islam and Muslims, and thus will be able to smooth over the hostility between the Islamic world and the West — our first Muslim President.”

Conservative talk-show hosts have occasionally repeated the rumor, with Michael Savage noting Obama’s “background” in a “Muslim madrassa in Indonesia” in June, and Rush Limbaugh saying in September that he occasionally got “confused” between Obama and Osama bin Laden. Others repeatedly use the senator’s middle name, Hussein.

Really, it amazes me that Conservatives in this country are too dumb to realize that this “religious” war is simply a way for their politicians to control them.

It’s a simple game, really. Make your followers believe that there is a war against your religion, paint people that you are running against as “Muslims” (even though it isn’t true), or sympathetic to Muslims, and then watch the votes come in.

Conservatives in this country seem to be a lost bunch. A group of people that are so deeply ingrained with the belief that Jesus leads people, that they think that Jesus leads their politicians as well, and that these politicians (who are politicians, and will do politiciany things like lie to get votes) are always truthful, and that what they say has to be true, because, well, Jesus tells them to, or something.

It’s fuckin’ insane.

So watch while Jesus makes Conservative talking heads to lie to win. Watch while Jesus convinces Conservatives in this country that the Iraq War is moral, that killing Muslims is His true wish for the world. And watch while Jesus leads people to lie about the “war” on Christmas, the “war” on terror, and the “war” on immigration, all so that a Republican can win.

Because, you know, that’s what Jesus really wants.

  1. Thanks for bringing this into the open and feling free to voice your thoughts.

It is sad that people take entrenched positions depending on their concept of god.

I agree with you, “it is insane”
